In 1983, Laplink was founded in the Pacific Northwest, just two years after the IBM PC was launched and four years after Microsoft moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Bellevue, Washington. It was the beginning of what would become a global software revolution, although at the time, most of us did not fully realize how significant it would be.
Those were very different days. There was no internet, no email, no smartphones, and no GPS. Many of the technologies we rely on today did not exist. Personal computing itself was still new. Early Laplink customers connected computers using cables to transfer data, often waiting patiently as progress bars slowly moved across the screen. It may seem basic now, but at the time it was a major step forward.
Even then, one thing was clear. This was just the beginning.
Over the past 43 years, Laplink has grown alongside the evolution of personal computing. We have helped millions of users and organizations move from one generation of technology to the next, from early standalone PCs to today’s connected environments. Our mission has remained consistent throughout. We make technology transitions easier and more accessible.
Even today, after more than four decades of innovation, we believe the best of technology is still ahead of us.
People continue to push forward in search of better tools, better lives, and more opportunities. We are now in another major moment of change with the rapid growth of artificial intelligence. While AI has been developing for many years, recent advances have brought it into everyday life and work at an accelerated pace.
With any major shift in technology, there are both opportunities and concerns. Similar concerns were raised during the early days of the internet. These perspectives are important because they remind us of our responsibility to guide new technologies in the right direction. It is important that we put the right guardrails in place and remain actively involved in how these tools are developed and used.
AI is already impacting many industries, not only software. It is improving efficiency, speeding up development, expanding access to information, and changing how work is done. At the same time, it will continue to influence the workforce and how organizations operate.
At Laplink, we’ve taken steps in this area by introducing AI-driven capabilities into our products. Our focus is to help customers better understand and use our solutions, while making processes simpler and more intuitive. In our flagship product, PCmover, we have improved the user experience with clearer guidance and smarter assistance to help users successfully move their applications, files, and settings.
We are also using AI internally to improve development, testing, and customer support. While these are early steps, we understand that this is just the beginning of another important transition in technology.
As we celebrate our 43rd anniversary, I want to thank everyone who has been a part of Laplink’s journey over the years. Our customers, partners, and employees have all played an important role in our success.
We are grateful for the trust you have placed in us over the past 43 years, and we remain committed to supporting your success in the years ahead.
