BUSINESS CHALLENGE
BusinessWare is a remote management and networking company that focuses on providing IT services to small and midsized businesses in California. The company implements its customers’ network setups, server installations, and new workstation installations while providing maintenance and management for all of their customers’ systems. BusinessWare also manages new operating system updates and upgrades for their customers and to provides ongoing Help Desk telephone and remote support.
Darren Sparlin, lead technician for BusinessWare, is responsible for maintaining systems and setting up new workstations for his clients. He also manages network installations of new switchers, routers, and firewalls. Darren was looking for a solution that would help BusinessWare reduce the amount of time and effort it was taking for their IT team to help customers with operating system refreshes when he discovered Laplink Software’s PCmover data transfer software. The PCmover solution has made a significant impact on BusinessWare’s operations due to its time-saving benefits that have helped automate and speed up formerly time-intensive projects.

Since starting to use PCmover, BusinessWare has found that the innovative data transfer solution has transformed their operating system refresh projects in a very positive way. PCmover allows the company’s IT team to manage PC migrations and other data transfer projects more quickly and efficiently for their customers, which in turn gives their technicians more time to focus on other projects.
“PCmover has been extremely helpful in our work with customers and the software has worked very well for us. BusinessWare has been using PCmover for more than a year and we’ve achieved significant efficiencies whenever we’re using the program,” says Darren. “It has saved us a tremendous amount of time during our migration projects — basically cutting in half the time required to do these projects. Now, instead of having to transfer over each program one by one and then transfer over user data, we just set up PCmover to automatically transfer over all of the user’s data, programs, applications, and other items.”
BusinessWare primarily works with small and midsized businesses, and most of their customers have specialized software that they use every day. Darren has been using PCmover Business to help his customers upgrade to the latest operating system, who want all their current programs moved over during the same project as well.
“Most of our customers have a lot of specialized software on their workstations that they need to conduct their daily business. Before using PCmover, it used to take a significant amount of time to transfer all of those specialized programs over for our customers,” says Darren. “For example, we were working with a client to upgrade 25 of their workstations to Windows 11. They are a cartography firm that specializes in providing ‘live’ real-time maps for companies, so they have about 15 different specialized programs on their workstations that they use constantly for creating their maps and reports. It was vital for this customer to not have much downtime while we were helping them upgrade to Windows 11 and transfer over their programs. PCmover really saved the day for us.”
RESULTS
According to Darren, the rollout of the new Windows 11 operating system combined with the data transfer of those specialized programs used to take several hours per computer. However, by using PCmover, BusinessWare was able to save several hours per computer on the project. He estimates that a full two days’ worth of time was saved over the course of the entire project.
In addition, BusinessWare has used PCmover Business to successfully help business owners who are working from home due to the Work From Anywhere (WFA) trend.
