PCmover tackles headaches caused by Windows 7 EOS - Laplink's Technology Blog

It’s time now. In less than 10 months Microsoft® will officially end support of Windows 7®. Unlike with previous operating systems, Microsoft has offered customers the continuation of security updates for a period of time as part of a Windows subscription. The price will be $25-50 dollars per PC going up to $100 to $200 in year 3.

Unless organizations have vital applications that will not run on Windows 10, most will decide to refresh their PCs with Windows 10. Some will use existing hardware but given the typical PC replacement cycle, most will move to new hardware.

Microsoft is rapidly moving their products to the cloud and connecting their traditional Office applications with new cloud-based applications, which should make us more productive and enable a new way to work. OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint and other Microsoft products create additional opportunities to share, communicate and collaborate.

Another step forward is the introduction of Azure Active Directory. Directory services were always local and organizations had challenges to always map their new organization structures (new acquisitions, organization changes, subsidiaries and sister companies) in the local Active Directory. Moving to Azure Active Directory allows IT departments to manage all of this in the cloud and harmonize both the user and organizational structures.

We at Laplink are committed to making your PC migration projects more efficient, enabling an easier process when PC lease cycles end, mitigating end user downtime during break/fix scenarios, and most of all, saving you time and money. PCmover Enterprise has quickly become the leading product for PC refreshes in large F1000 companies, mid-market organizations, government and education. The ROI is immediate, substantial and visible. Our sales teams have shared with me many customers’ feedback that have proven we continue to achieve our commitments. A large retail customer said, “With PCmover we save 5 hours per desktop”; a large service company said, “We are saving $100,000 per year in help desk support”; and a global professional and financial services firm described how PCmover Enterprise enabled them to move over 175,000 PCs to Windows 10, which was more efficient and cost effective than Microsoft’s User State Migration Tool (USMT).

Depending on your scenario, whether you need to move the complete PC personality including applications, data and settings to a new PC or clean/repair/upgrade an existing PC, PCmover Enterprise gives IT teams the power to configure the product according to their policies and goals. CIOs are even using PCmover Enterprise to configure a near zero-touch & fully automated transfer that is executed by the user and runs in the background.

Moving to Azure Active Directory creates some headaches when transferring a local Active Directory profile to the new AAD profile. Laplink has been working very closely with Microsoft to help overcome this issue by creating a new feature of PCmover Enterprise called PCmover Profile Migrator. Now what was previously completed manually is automated with PCmover Profile Migrator, saving IT teams hours of manual profile creation.

You can receive a free, fully functional evaluation copy of PCmover Enterprise here or just reply to this email. Whether you are moving off of Windows 7 or need to increase new PC deployments, PCmover is the solution!
